RC4 Wireless Software and Firmware Downloads

RC4 USB Interface Drivers

For the majority of installations, you do not need to download or install USB drivers.  If you are just getting started, skip this section.  If you end up with problems connecting to an RC4 USB device, come back here to download and install drivers manually.

All RC4 devices with USB connections are compatible with both Mac OSX and Windows.  We use the de-facto standard chip-set for USB interfaces, manufactured by FTDI. Both Apple and Microsoft have included default drivers that work perfectly with RC4 products.

Most computers that have problems working with RC4 devices have been configured and locked down by IT security professionals.  If your computer is not allowed to download or install drivers, you will need to seek assistance from your company’s IT department.

In other cases, your computer might have an old or obsolete FTDI driver, or some sort of random glitch may have occurred during driver installation.  To resolve problems related to USB and Com Port connections:

  1. Uninstall all RC4 software.
  2. Download USB drivers directly from FTDI, being sure to select the correct version for your operating system.
  3. Install the downloaded drivers.
  4. Insert an RC4 USB device (an XStick Donge, an HG Dongle, or a CodeLoader cable) into a USB port. In some cases, driver installation does not complete until a device is inserted.  Wait for all drivers to complete installing.  There are sometimes two steps: first the hardware driver, then the VCP driver.
  5. Optional: If you are familiar with advanced features of your operating system, confirm that the USB ComPort is preset.  In Windows, use the Device Manager.  In MacOS go to AppleMenu>About This Mac, Overview tab>System Report, and in the report go to Hardware>USB.  Look for a port with FTDI drivers.
  6. Download the latest versions of RC4 software, see below.
  7. Reinstall the latest version of RC4 Commander.
  8. Optional: If you are using a PC, install the RC4 CodeLoader for updating firmware in RC4 devices.
  9. If problems persist, it is possible that there is hardware problem with your RC4 device.  Please contact support@theatrewireless.com for further assistance.

RC4 Commander Configuration Software:

All-new RC4 Commander is available for both Mac and PC!  Version 1.3.2 supports
RC4Magic Series 2 and Series 3, RC4Magic-900, and RC5 EASS systems.  As of v1.2, DEMO mode works without physical devices so you can try before you buy, complete with a sample RC4 Private IDentity file and a comprehensive set of virtual devices emulating a range of dimmers and pixel drivers.  Download and try it now!

To use RC4 Commander with your real RC4 hardware, you MUST request an encrypted RC4 Private IDentity file.  (NOTE: The file format is NOT the same as used with our older RC4MagicPC software.)
Request your ID file here, and select the first Ticket Type (Request System ID for RC4 Commander).

Treat your ID file carefully — it is the key to your worldwide RC4 system security.

RC4MagicPC Configuration Software (OBSOLETE)

This program is no longer being updated and does not correctly configure devices loaded with the most current system firmware.  The new RC4Commander (downloads above) is device and firmware-aware, and supports Series 2 and Series 3 devices.

Visit the RC4MagicPC product page for additional information.  This software runs on Microsoft Windows 7, 8, and 10.  It may work but is not officially supported for earlier versions of Windows.  It also works well on a Mac running Parallels, or with Bootcamp.

RC4MagicPC Remote Configuration Software for Series 3 Devices:

As of v3.14.6.6, RC4 Wireless can provide you with an RC4Magic encrypted ID file for your system (NOTE: This file is not an RC4 Commander Private IDentity file).  If you have not been provided with your ID file, request it here.  Be sure to include your name or company name that is associated with your system in our database, and the IDs as marked on your device labels.

Treat your ID file carefully — it is the key to your worldwide RC4 system security.

If you do not have an ID file, your computer can also learn your IDs by connecting to one of your devices using the ID3/Public ID, which is the same on all devices ever built.  This process is demonstrated in this video:
[VIDEO]RC4MagicPC: Setting Up Private IDs for the First Time

For RC4Magic Series 2 Users with Firmware Older than 3.0xx:

The first time you use RC4MagicPC, the software must learn your unique and private RC4 System IDs.  This process is demonstrated in a video listed above.

Additional Resources for RC4Magic-900 Users:

As of v3.14.6.6, RC4 Wireless can provide you with an encrypted ID file for your system (NOTE: This file is not an RC4 Commander Private IDentity file).  If you have not been provided with your encrypted ID file, request it here.  Be sure to include your name or company name that is associated with your system in our database, and the IDs as marked on your device labels.

RC4 Series 3 CodeLoader:

CodeLoader software is not available for Mac OSX.  This PC version works well on a Mac running Windows in Parallels or Bootcamp.

The RC4 CodeLoader facilitates device firmware updating. Major version updates may require loading factory default settings after installing.  In most cases, a firmware maintenance release can be installed without affecting DMX channels, curves, and other application-specific settings.

The download includes instructions for use.

Learn more on the RC4 CodeLoader information page, and the RC4 CodeLoader Cable product page.

RC4 Series 3 Harmonized Design Firmware Update Files

New RC4 Series 3 SX Firmware is now available!  Updates are compatible with all Series 3 Harmonized Design hardware, all the way back to first release in Aug 2014.
The zip files below contain firmware for ALL devices in each product family.  You MUST CodeLoad the correct file for the device you are updating.  Loading the wrong file will NOT brick the device, it will simply not operate as expected.  In many cases rapid and continuous LED flashing indicates an incorrect firmware file.  Repeat the CodeLoader process using the correct file.

An RC4 CodeLoader cable or equivalent is REQUIRED to upload firmware to Series 3 devices.
Purchase a CodeLoader cable.

Video tutorials showing how to upload all our devices are provided on our RC4 Documentation and Support Website, http://rc4.info.
Always restore defaults after updating firmware.
Failure to do so may result in unexpected behavior.
